The Euro 427 Chassis
Continued

Castor angie is set to Ford spec in the master jig, camber is set when the rolling chassis is completed using the adjustable top ball-joint, king-pin inclination is kept to Ford specs by using wheels of the correct offset, i.e.-not just wider. The rear suspension has also been kept as Ford intended; except for a slight change to give the correct camber.

We designed our rear end to utilise the complete Sierra/Granada subframe, after all, why throw away something that Ford must've spent millions developing? With one change- the angle of the differential flange can be altered slightly by shimming the rear isolator mount, this is sometimes necessary to ensure the propshaft joints run in the same piano.( This reduces vibration and ensures a long life for the universal joints.) Please note that fitting points are the same for all Sierras and Scorpio shape Granadas, but of course the Granada gives you disc brakes- an idea if a powerful engine is being fined because this chassis means you can use the performance available.

In common with many `user-friendly ` kit chassis you will find mounting points for steering rack, brake hoses, handbrake cables, throttle pedal and cable, pedal box, brake servo etc pre-drilled in the correct places. Many of the parts are made on `state of the art' computer controlled laser cutting machines, this ensures that everything is in the right place- every time. We presume that most builders will buy a cheap Sierra to source all the required `donor' items therefore any diversion from Sierra parts will need discussion with us- for example you may wish to fit the ABS system from a Granada-this will not fit the laser cut bulkhead suitable for the Sierra servo. (These ideas can be arranged at time of ordering) The main thing you may wish to change is the engine/gearbox, although the standard choice of Sierra/Granada gives quite a choice, many people feel that a Cobra really needs the torque and rumble of a V8; to this end we have ensured that the majority of V-B engines and transmissions will fit comfortably, the areas where engine and gearbox mounts fit are left un-drilled until final choice is made. We can work with you on this matter and make up the necessary mount adapters, or you can deliver the engine/transmission to us for `dry fitting'.

Uncommon, however, is the fact that as we have made the `EURO 427' fully SVA compliant all seatbelt mounts are mounted to the chassis, rather than bonded to fibreglass panels, with the correct (industry standard) 7/16" UNF thread already pre-tapped. You can fit the Sierra front belts or new aftermarket ones, or if you prefer you can specify mounts for three-point racing harnesses at time of ordering.
